The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon name India’s team for the Asia Cup 2025.

The selection meeting is likely to be on August 19 or 20, after doctors send the final fitness reports for all players. The Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format in the UAE from September 9.

Reports say some famous players might miss out this year. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and KL Rahul are likely to be left out. The reason is simple there are already many top-order batters in great form, so the selectors can’t fit them all in. KL Rahul may also miss out because he does not usually bat in the middle order in T20s, and there is strong competition for the wicketkeeper role.

Suryakumar Yadav is expected to be the captain. Abhishek Sharma, who is currently the world’s No. 1 T20 batter, will likely open with Sanju Samson, who will also be the first-choice wicketkeeper. Shubman Gill, who has been in great form in both Tests and the IPL, should be in the top order too.

Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya are also set to be key players in the batting line-up. Hardik will lead the seam-bowling all-rounders, and Shivam Dube, who played well against England, is also likely to be included.

For wicketkeeping, Samson is almost certain to take the main spot. The second keeper choice will be between Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel, both of whom have done well in the IPL and in recent matches. In spin, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are likely to be picked as spin-bowling all-rounders, along with specialist spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.

In fast bowling, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh are expected to lead the attack. The third fast bowler will be either Prasidh Krishna, who took 25 wickets in the last IPL, or Harshit Rana, who is known for his speed and bounce. Some players, including Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy, will miss the tournament due to injuries.

India’s matches in the Asia Cup will start against the UAE on September 10. Then they will face Pakistan on September 14, and Oman on September 19. The top teams from each group will move to the Super Fours, and the final will be played on September 28.

The possible squad includes:

Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and either Prasidh Krishna or Harshit Rana. The back-up wicketkeeper will be Jitesh Sharma or Dhruv Jurel.

This selection is based on current form, fitness, and the right mix of experienced and young players. The absence of stars like Jaiswal, Sudharsan, and KL Rahul shows how tough the competition is right now. The official team announcement will soon confirm who makes it for this big T20 event.
