India’s T20 cricket team is waiting for fitness news about some important players before the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in September.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Recovery
T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is still getting ready after sports hernia surgery he had in Munich, Germany, this June.
He has been practicing at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. His workouts include running, gym sessions, and batting in the nets.
Suryakumar has shared videos online of his practice. Reports say he will stay at the NCA for another week to fully recover.
The Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28. India’s first game of the tournament is set for September 10 against the UAE. The big match against Pakistan will be on September 14. India’s final team list will come out later in August after all fitness checks are done.
Suryakumar had a great IPL 2025 season. He made 717 runs for Mumbai Indians, the second-highest in the tournament, just behind Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans. Since becoming India’s T20I captain after Rohit Sharma stepped down in 2024, he has led the team to 17 wins in 22 matches.
Hardik Pandya’s Fitness Test
All-rounder Hardik Pandya has also come to the NCA for his routine fitness test on August 11 and 12. He has been training in Mumbai since mid-July. Hardik is an important player for both the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2026.
Shreyas Iyer’s Uncertain Spot
Shreyas Iyer finished his fitness tests at the NCA between July 27 and 29. He has been in good form in domestic cricket and led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final. But he has not played a T20I for India since December 2023, so it is not sure if he will be picked for the Asia Cup.
Next Steps for Team India
With less than one month before the tournament, the team is watching all players’ fitness closely. The team’s final lineup will be decided based on Suryakumar’s recovery, Hardik’s fitness results, and the selectors’ call on Shreyas Iyer.
