Sourav Ganguly, who was once the captain of the Indian cricket team, spoke about the gossip that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might stop playing One-Day International (ODI) cricket after their upcoming matches in Australia this October.
Some news reports said this could be their last ODI games, because the cricket board (BCCI) wants players to join local tournaments if they want to be picked for future big events like the 2027 World Cup.
Ganguly said that he does not know anything about their retirement plans. He shared his opinion that if a player is still performing well, he should keep playing for India.
Ganguly praised Kohli and Rohit for being very good at white-ball cricket and said they are still strong players. He believes that these two should continue playing as long as they are doing well.
India’s series against Australia will start on October 19, 2025. The matches will be played in cities like Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney. After these games, India will also play at home against South Africa. In 2026, India has more matches lined up against teams such as New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, and the West Indies.
Ganguly also talked about the Asia Cup, which starts in September in Dubai. He feels India is a very strong team in white-ball cricket and has a good chance to win again, especially on Dubai’s pitches where it’s hard to defeat India.
Right now, the news about Kohli and Rohit leaving ODIs before the 2027 World Cup is only a rumour.Ganguly thinks it depends only on how well they play. If Kohli and Rohit are still good, they should keep playing for the Indian team.
