But in 2026, it will not bring out the regular iPhone 18 at that time. Instead, Apple will launch the top models, like the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, plus a new foldable iPhone, during the usual fall period.
The basic iPhone 18 will come later, probably in early 2027. It will join other models such as the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 in a spring release. This approach helps Apple focus attention on its high-end phones first. It keeps customers excited and gives extra time to improve the standard version.
This is a major change for Apple. Since the first iPhone came out in 2007, the company has always released a basic model in the fall. Now, suppliers already know about the new schedule. It helps them prepare better against competitors like Android phones, which update twice a year.
By spreading out the launches, Apple wants to increase sales over more months. It also avoids flooding the market at once. People who want the best features can buy premium options in 2026. Those looking for cheaper phones can wait just a bit longer.
In other Apple news, the iOS 26.3 update includes a new built-in feature called Transfer to Android. Users can find it in Settings under General, then Transfer or Reset iPhone. This tool lets people move important data to an Android phone without needing other apps.

It transfers photos, messages, notes, apps, and even phone numbers. To use it, just scan a QR code or enter a pairing code for a wireless transfer. Some things like health records and locked notes do not move, to protect privacy. The feature follows EU rules from the Digital Markets Act. It is similar to the tool Google offers for switching from iPhone.
Apple also plans new MacBooks for 2026. Soon after the new year starts, expect 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. These will use powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. They improve on the basic M5 with faster storage, quicker memory, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.
The design may look the same until OLED screens come later. At the same time, a new MacBook Air for everyday users and a small 12-inch budget model will launch. These options suit students, professionals, and casual users.
On the AI front, Apple takes a careful path as doubts grow about an AI bubble in 2026. While other companies spend billions on big features, Apple stays steady with more than $130 billion in cash and securities. This avoids too many AI extras that some users find annoying. It also lets Apple buy promising AI companies later if prices fall.
In a year when heavy AI investments face questions about fast returns, Apple's plan looks strong. It mixes smart limits with solid finances. One issue is the new Games app in iOS 26. It relies too much on Apple Arcade, has ads, and short play times that bother gamers. Overall, these steps show Apple adjusting to stay fresh and user-friendly.
