The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given a low rating to the pitch at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the fourth Ashes Test match.
Match referee Jeff Crowe, from the ICC's top panel, described it as "unsatisfactory." Because of this, the well-known stadium now has one demerit point on its record, and this mark will remain for the next five years.
The Test match ended in just two days, which is very rare for such an important game. A total of 36 wickets fell in only 142 overs, proving how difficult the pitch was for batsmen. No player in the whole match scored 50 runs or more.
On the first day, 20 wickets fell, and the second day saw 16 more. Jeff Crowe noted that the pitch helped bowlers a lot from the very beginning. He pointed out that it favored fast bowlers too much, stopping teams from building proper innings as per ICC rules.
This is not the first quick Test in the Ashes series. The first match in Perth also finished in two days. England won the Boxing Day Test at MCG, but Australia had already won the series by taking the first three games. Australia now leads 3-1.
Fans can watch the final Test starting January 4 in Sydney. The demerit point means MCG pitches will face closer checks in future international matches. Experts in cricket often discuss pitch conditions, as they help make games fair and enjoyable for both batsmen and bowlers.
