India’s Test cricket captain Shubman Gill has achieved a big milestone. He is now the first male cricketer to win the ICC Player of the Month award four times.
His most recent win came for his amazing performance in the July 2025 Test series against England, called the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
In July, Gill played three Test matches and scored 567 runs with a very high average of 94.50. His best moment came in the second Test at Edgbaston, where he scored two centuries in the same match 269 runs in the first innings and 161 runs in the second.
This gave him a total of 430 runs in one match, which is the second-highest score ever in a Test. He also scored 103 runs in the fourth Test in Manchester, which helped India draw the game. Across the entire series, he scored 754 runs in five matches, averaging 75.40 the best in the series.
Gill had also won this ICC award before in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025. The winner is chosen by votes from a panel of cricket experts and fans across the world. This time, Gill was chosen ahead of two other strong players, England’s Ben Stokes and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder.
Gill said this award means a lot because it came during his first Test series as captain. He said the matches taught him many lessons, and he thanked the jury and his teammates for their support. He also said he wants to continue playing well and win more matches for India.
England’s Sophia Dunkley earned the ICC Player of the Month award for July 2025 in women’s cricket, thanks to a brilliant home series against India where she amassed 270 runs in three ODIs and four T20Is.One of her finest performances was an 83-run innings in the first ODI at Southampton. She topped England’s run charts in the T20I series and secured the honor ahead of Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland’s Gaby Lewis.
