iPhone 17 Pro Tipped to Feature Reverse Wireless Charging at 7.5W Ahead of Launch

Apple is expected to bring a new feature to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max this year. A Chinese tipster suggests that the upcoming Pro models may finally support reverse wireless charging. This means users could charge devices like AirPods and the Apple Watch just by placing them on the back of the iPhone.

iPhone 17 Pro tipped to launch with 7.5W reverse wireless charging, possible to charge AirPods and Apple Watch directly from the smartphone.

The information was shared by a well-known source on the social media site Weibo. Leaks hint that Apple has already tested this feature on the iPhone 17 Pro. The phone may allow users to wirelessly charge other devices at a speed of 7.5W.

This will make it the first iPhone to come with this option, even though Apple has offered regular wireless charging with MagSafe for years.

Reverse wireless charging is not a new idea in the smartphone world. Samsung first introduced it in 2019 with the Galaxy S10 series under the name Wireless PowerShare. Since then, many Android makers like Xiaomi and OnePlus have included it in their flagship phones. The latest Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra offers reverse wireless charging at 4.5W.

Xiaomi’s latest 15 Ultra goes even further and does it at 10W, which is faster than what Apple is rumored to offer. The iPhone 17 Pro, if it really supports 7.5W, will sit somewhere in between the two.

Apple is known for arriving late to trends but then focusing on making features more useful inside its own ecosystem. Experts believe that even if iPhones do not offer the fastest speeds, the feature could work especially well for charging accessories like AirPods, Apple Watches, and other MagSafe-supported devices in real-life situations.

iPhone 17 Pro Could Add Reverse Charging for Apple Watch and AirPods

The iPhone 17 series is expected to launch next month at Apple’s big “Awe Dropping” event, scheduled for September 9. Along with reverse wireless charging, leaks suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro Max may also feature a lighter body and a bigger battery. Apple is likely to highlight improvements in cameras and new AI-powered features as well.

Production of the iPhone 17 has already started in India at Foxconn’s Bengaluru facility. This is part of Apple’s plan to expand local manufacturing and reduce its reliance on China. The company is also opening its fourth official Apple Store in the country. The new store will be in Pune and is set to open on September 4, just days before the new iPhones are revealed.

Separately, Apple has released the latest iOS 26 Public Beta 5 for iPhones. The update addresses multiple bugs and enhances stability ahead of the iPhone 17 launch.

If these reports are correct, Apple will finally join the list of brands offering reverse wireless charging six years after Samsung and Xiaomi first introduced it. For Apple users, however, it could still be a big upgrade, giving them the chance to charge their small devices in emergencies without carrying extra chargers.
