India's Electronics Boom: 6X Production, 8X Exports in 10 Years!

India's electronics industry grew a lot in the last 10 years. Both making products and selling them to other countries went up fast. This happened because of government plans and more business activity. Official numbers show that making electronic items rose almost six times.

Graph showing India's electronics production and exports growth from 2014-25, with PLI scheme impact and mobile manufacturing surge.

It went from about 1.9 lakh crore rupees in 2014-15 to around 11.3 lakh crore rupees in 2024-25. At the same time, sending these items abroad grew about eight times. It jumped from 0.38 lakh crore rupees 10 years ago to roughly 3.3 lakh crore rupees in 2024-25. This shows India is becoming more important in the world market for electronics.

This big rise did not just happen on its own. One main reason is a government program called the Production Linked Incentive scheme for big electronics making. In this plan, the government gives money rewards to companies that make electronic products in India. So far, it has brought in investments of more than 13,475 crore rupees.

Thanks to this, making electronics under the scheme has hit nearly 9.8 lakh crore rupees. Many companies have started new factories or made old ones bigger here. This has increased the ability to make more products and created many jobs.

The number of places making mobile phones in India has gone up a huge amount too. Back in 2014-15, there were only two such factories. But by 2024-25, there are now more than 300. This makes India one of the biggest centers in the world for producing smartphones. Just making mobiles has been a big part of the whole industry's success. It covers a large part of both the products made and the ones sent abroad.

People who know the industry well say India's electronics sales to other countries, especially mobile phones, are in high demand around the world. There have been big jumps in these sales lately. Better quality in making things, more need for products from India globally, and smart steps to cut down on buying from outside have helped. Now, electronics is one of India's top things to sell abroad.

Experts also note that the full system around making electronics in India is getting better. The government started a plan called the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, or ECMS. It helps make important parts right here in the country.

This cuts the need to bring in those parts from other places. Many companies, both big ones from around the world and local ones, are getting interested. This shows they trust India's power to make things.

This growth in electronics is also making lots of jobs and helping the whole economy. In recent years, millions of jobs came up directly and indirectly. These are in factories, supply lines, and other related work. Leaders think that with more money coming in and government help, job creation will speed up even more. This will make India a stronger part of the world's chains for making and moving electronics.

In all, the numbers for making and selling electronics in India show a huge change in this important area of business. Ten years ago, India brought in most of its electronics from outside. Now, it is turning into a strong place to make and send these goods to the world. This helps build up the economy and puts India on the global map more.
