The incident happened when Sudharsan, fielding at forward short leg, took a sharp catch of West Indies opener John Campbell off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. Campbell’s slog-sweep struck Sudharsan’s helmet, but he managed to hold on to the catch. Despite this, he had to leave the field for treatment and did not return, with Devdutt Padikkal taking over fielding duties.
The BCCI confirmed that Sudharsan is fine and the injury is not serious. "He has not taken the field today as a precautionary measure. The injury is not serious, and he is doing fine. He continues to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team," the board said during Day 3’s play.
In the first innings, Sudharsan scored a calm 87 off 165 balls with 12 boundaries, sharing a 193-run second-wicket stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who top-scored with 175. Skipper Shubman Gill also made 129 not out, marking his tenth Test century and fifth of the year.
India started Day 3 strongly, with Kuldeep Yadav dismissing Shai Hope for 36. The hosts remain favourites to secure a 2-0 series win over West Indies.
