The seven-time world champion has stayed out of the public spotlight ever since the tragic accident in December 2013. Reports suggest that Schumacher lives in Switzerland, but his family has never shared details about his health condition to protect his privacy.
A report published by The Express mentioned that the 56-year-old cannot speak because of the severe injuries he suffered in the skiing accident. Only a few people are allowed to meet him, mostly close family members, trusted friends, or medical professionals involved in his care.
The report mentioned that very few people have been allowed to visit Schumacher’s home since his accident.
In 2024, several European media outlets claimed that Schumacher made his first public appearance in more than ten years. Reports say he attended his daughter Gina’s wedding, which took place at a villa in Mallorca, Spain. His wife, Corinna Schumacher, who has been taking care of him since the accident, purchased that luxury villa from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Former F1 champion Sebastian Vettel, a close friend of the Schumacher family, said last year that Michael’s health is “not good.”
Schumacher’s lawyer, Felix Damm, later explained that the family decided not to release any detailed medical report about the F1 legend. He said the choice was made to protect Schumacher’s personal privacy.
“It was always about keeping personal matters private,” Damm told the German outlet LTO, as quoted by SI.com. “We thought about releasing a final report on Michael’s health but chose not to.”
Earlier this year, Schumacher reportedly managed to sign a crash helmet for an auction, with the help of his wife Corinna.
