Aman was one of India’s top medal hopes and was supposed to compete in the men’s 57 kg freestyle category. However, he was disqualified from the event after exceeding the weight limit by 1.7 kilograms. The championship took place between September 13 and September 21. From the Indian contingent, only Antim Panghal managed to win a medal a bronze in the women’s 53 kg category.
According to ESPN, the WFI issued a notice stating, “You are hereby suspended from all wrestling-related activities, both at the national and international level, for a period of one year, effective from the date of the show-cause notice.” The federation also confirmed that the decision is final and binding. During the suspension period, Aman will not be allowed to participate in or be associated with any event organized or approved by the WFI.
The disciplinary action began after the WFI sent Aman a show-cause notice on September 23, asking him to explain the reason behind the lapse. He responded on September 29, but the Disciplinary Committee found his explanation unsatisfactory.
The WFI described his behavior as a sign of “indiscipline and lack of professionalism.” The federation said it expected higher standards from an Olympic medalist and expressed disappointment over the incident.
Along with Aman, his chief coach Jagmander Singh and three other members of the coaching team Vinod, Virender, and Narender were also asked to explain why they failed to monitor his weight properly before the championship.
