Report: Sony to Launch PS5 Slim Digital Edition in Europe with Reduced Storage in 2025

According to Reports Sony is planning to launch a new version of the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition in Europe. This new model will have less storage space than the current version. Instead of 1TB of space, it will come with 825GB of storage.

This is 175GB less than before. The update applies solely to the Digital Edition, which is the PS5 model that lacks a disc drive. The regular PS5 Slim with a disc will still have 1TB of storage.

Although the storage capacity is reduced, the price remains unchanged at 499 euros. Sony is likely doing this to save money on making the console without raising prices again. Since the PS5 came out in 2020, its price in Europe has already gone up twice from 399 euros to 449.99 euros, and then to 499.99 euros earlier this year.

By giving less storage but keeping the price the same, Sony might avoid making the console more expensive for buyers.

The feature set and design of the console will not change. It will look like the current PS5 Slim. The new model is expected to be available in Europe starting September 13, 2025. This means the current version with 1TB storage may soon be taken off the shelves.

When the PS5 originally launched, both versions had 825GB of storage. The storage was increased to 1TB later with the PS5 Slim version in 2023. So this new version is going back to the old storage size but with the newer slim design.

Gamers who buy games digitally might find this storage size disappointing because digital games take up a lot of space. Still, the PS5 supports adding extra space with an M.2 SSD slot, so users can add their own storage if needed.

For now, the smaller storage version is only confirmed to launch in Europe. It is unclear if Sony will release the same version in other regions like the US or Asia.

In short, Sony will sell a new PS5 Slim Digital Edition in Europe with 825GB of storage but keep the price at 499 euros. The disc version will keep its 1TB storage. The new model launches on September 13, 2025. This is a cost-saving move by Sony without changing the look or other features of the console.
