Huawei has introduced its new tri-fold phone, the Huawei Mate XTs, in China. This is the company’s second tri-fold smartphone. It comes with the latest Kirin 9020 processor, a stronger hinge, support for the M-Pen 3 stylus, and runs on HarmonyOS 5.1. The phone can be used in three different ways like a normal phone, like a tablet, or as a large full screen when fully opened.
In China, the Mate XTs starts at CNY 17,999, with the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage variant costing around Rs. 2.22 lakh. 2.22 lakh. The 16GB + 512GB model is priced at CNY 19,999 (about Rs. 2.47 lakh), while the 16GB + 1TB version costs CNY 21,999 (around Rs. 2.71 lakh).
The phone will be sold in black, red, purple, and white colours. It will be available from September 5 on Huawei’s official online store in China. The M-Pen 3 stylus can be bought separately for CNY 599 and can also work as a remote control and a laser pointer.
The phone has three screen sizes depending on how it is folded. When folded like a phone, it has a 6.4-inch screen with a resolution of 2,232 × 1,008 pixels. When partly unfolded, it becomes a 7.9-inch screen with a resolution of 2,232 × 2,048 pixels.
Once opened completely, the device offers a 10.2-inch display with a resolution of 2,232 × 3,184 pixels. All the screens are LTPO OLED panels. They support adaptive refresh rates, 1,440Hz PWM dimming for less flicker, and 240Hz touch sampling rate for faster response.
The Huawei Mate XTs is equipped with a Kirin 9020 chip, paired with 16GB RAM and offers up to 1TB of storage. The new Tiangong dual hinge design is stronger than before. Huawei says the outer hinge is 23 percent stronger and the inner hinge is 16 percent stronger. The screen is also more resistant to damage.
For photos, the phone has three rear cameras a 50-megapixel main camera, a 40-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5.5x optical zoom. Both the main and telephoto cameras support optical image stabilisation (OIS). The front has an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera for selfies. All rear cameras use an RYYB pixel layout, which helps capture more light and improves night photos.
The phone has a 5,600mAh battery with 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging to charge other devices. The phone supports a wide range of connectivity features, including Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, UWB, an IR blaster, satellite communication, and a USB Type-C port.
For security, there is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The device weighs 298 grams and measures 3.6mm at its thinnest point when unfolded. The smartphone does not feature an official rating for dust or water resistance.
Compared to the older Mate XT, the new Mate XTs brings a faster processor, stronger hinge, stylus support, and more colour options. It also starts at a lower price. Huawei is focusing on improving its tri-fold phones while most rivals are still working on their first models. The phone will go on sale in China first, and Huawei has not shared any plans for a global launch yet.
