Samsung Project Moohan XR Headset Launch on September 29: Price, Specs, and Global Rollout Details Leaked

Samsung is getting ready to bring its new mixed reality headset, called Project Moohan, later this year. According to reports from industry sources, the company will announce the device on September 29, 2025, at a Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea.

After the launch, it will slowly become available in other countries, starting with South Korea on October 13, 2025.

The Project Moohan headset will be Samsung’s answer to the Apple Vision Pro, which came out in early 2024. Apple’s headset did not sell well because it was priced too high. Samsung is expected to take a different approach by pricing Moohan slightly lower.

Reports say the headset may cost between KRW 2.5 million (about ₹1,57,000) and KRW 4 million (about ₹2,51,200). For comparison, the Apple Vision Pro costs around KRW 4.86 million (about ₹3,05,200) in South Korea. Even though it is still expensive, Samsung’s device may feel a little more affordable compared to Apple’s option.

However, Samsung does not seem to expect huge sales either. Previous reports hinted that Samsung plans to sell only about 100,000 units of Project Moohan worldwide. This shows that Samsung sees the device more as a starting point for its future plans in smart wearables, instead of a product for the mass market. In fact, reports describe Moohan as a “bridgehead,” meaning it is meant to prepare the ground for the company’s next generation of smart glasses.

The leaked details show that Project Moohan could be a very powerful headset. The headset is expected to feature a 1.3‑inch micro‑OLED display with around 3800 pixels per inch. The display is said to support near‑4K resolution, a refresh rate of 90 frames per second, up to 1000 nits brightness, and almost 96 percent coverage of the DCI‑P3 color gamut, which should make colors look rich and natural.

For performance, Moohan will likely run on the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm, paired with an Adreno 740 GPU. This is the same graphics unit used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

The headset is likely to include 16GB of RAM and run on Android 14, with a new XR system from Google built over it. Together, these features should make it capable of handling advanced extended reality experiences smoothly.

Samsung’s long‑term plan seems to go beyond just this headset. Earlier in 2025, at Google I/O, the company showed off its Project Haean AR glasses, which are also expected to launch soon. On top of that, Samsung is said to be working on AI-powered smart glasses that won’t use a display.

Instead, these will come with a camera, microphone, and speakers, making them similar to the Ray‑Ban Meta smart glasses. Such devices may be aimed at casual everyday use, where people could use smart features without wearing a full VR or XR headset.

Market experts think Samsung is being careful with this launch. Unlike Meta, which tries to sell VR devices to more affordable markets, Samsung is likely targeting premium users who want cutting‑edge technology.

By pricing Project Moohan lower than Apple’s Vision Pro but still keeping it at a premium range, the company seems to be testing user interest without relying on big sales numbers.
