Apple has officially confirmed that it will hold its next big launch event called ‘Awe Dropping’ on September 9 at 10 AM PT (10:30 PM IST). At this event, the company is expected to introduce the new iPhone 17 series, which is likely to include four models.
These are the regular iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a brand-new version expected to be called iPhone 17 Air. This new model is said to take the place of the older “Plus” variant.
The iPhone 17 Air is drawing a lot of attention because it is expected to be the thinnest iPhone ever made by Apple. Reports suggest that the phone will be only 5.5mm thick at its thinnest point, which makes it one of the slimmest smartphones in the industry. At the same time, there has been some confusion over its name. Some earlier leaks suggested that Apple might call it the iPhone 17 Slim.
Online accessory listings now show the name iPhone 17 Air, which follows Apple’s common naming style used for products like the MacBook Air and iPad Air. Apple has not yet confirmed the final name.
In terms of design and features, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to come with a 6.6-inch OLED display. The screen is likely to support ProMotion technology, meaning it can run at a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and animations. The device may run on Apple’s powerful A19 Pro processor and could include 12GB of RAM, making it strong enough for performance-heavy tasks like gaming and multitasking.
The camera setup will be more simple compared to the Pro models. The iPhone 17 Air is said to include a single 48MP Fusion camera on the back and a 24MP camera on the front for selfies and video calls. While this makes it less advanced than the Pro models, it may still be powerful enough for most users and offer good photo and video quality.
Because of its slim build, the iPhone 17 Air may include a battery smaller than 3,000mAh. This could raise some concerns about battery life, but Apple is expected to balance that with better power efficiency thanks to the new processor and iOS 19. Still, the smaller battery size may be something buyers will want to consider before choosing this model.
Reports say the iPhone 17 Air may come in Black, Light Blue, Light Gold, and White colors. The price is expected to start at $949, which roughly converts to ₹83,000 in India.
The September 9 event will not only focus on new iPhones but may also bring other announcements. Apple might introduce the Apple Watch Series 11, new AirPods, and share details about its upcoming software updates like iOS 19, watchOS 11, and macOS Sequoia. The company is also expected to start moving away from older devices such as the iPhone 15, and it could even shift its retail focus away from the iPhone 16 series as well.
Overall, the iPhone 17 Air looks like the most exciting addition to Apple’s lineup this year. It is designed to be super slim, stylish, and powerful. At the same time, it will be interesting to see how users respond to its smaller battery and simpler camera setup when compared to the Pro models. All the details will be officially revealed at Apple’s big launch event on September 9.
