Smriti Mandhana made history on Sunday, October 12, 2025, by becoming the first woman cricketer in the world to score 1000 runs in a calendar year in Women’s One Day Internationals (ODIs).
She achieved this during India’s match against Australia in Visakhapatnam. Mandhana needed 18 runs to reach 1000 in 2025 and did it with a six off Sophie Molineux on the third ball of the eighth over.
Before this match, Mandhana broke the record held by former Australian batter Belinda Clark for scoring the most runs in a calendar year in women’s ODIs. Clark scored 970 runs in 1997 while playing 16 matches for Australia. Mandhana has played 18 matches in 2025 and now has 1003 runs.
If Mandhana scores at least 58 runs in this match, she will complete 5000 runs in Women’s ODIs. Only four women cricketers have scored more than 5000 runs in ODIs so far. The top among them is former India captain Mithali Raj, who scored 7805 runs in 232 matches from 1999 to 2022. She is followed by England’s Charlotte Edwards, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates, and the West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor.
Mandhana has played 112 matches and has scored 4963 runs in her career. She is very close to joining the list of players with 5000 runs. In the match before this one, against Australia at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, she scored a century in just 50 balls. India lost their third match in the Women’s World Cup 2025 to South Africa by three wickets. The team will look to Mandhana to play a big innings in the current match.
