The crash occurred when Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi hit the back of Marquez’s Ducati at high speed on the Mandalika circuit in Lombok. Both riders fell into the gravel but were lucky to avoid serious harm. Marquez was seen clutching his shoulder in pain as he walked away from the track.
After the crash, Marquez returned to Madrid for medical tests. Doctors confirmed a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury in his right shoulder. They said there was no major bone displacement and that the new injury was unrelated to his previous shoulder problem.
Ducati announced that Marquez’s medical team has chosen a careful recovery plan. He will rest and keep his shoulder immobilized until it heals completely. Surgery is not needed at this stage. He will also undergo regular check-ups to monitor his recovery.
Because of the injury, Marquez will miss the Australian Grand Prix from October 17 to 19 and the Malaysian Grand Prix from October 24 to 26. Doctors will decide later if he can return for the final two races in Portugal and Valencia in November.
The team said his health is the main priority and they do not want to rush his return. Marquez mentioned that the injury is not very serious but it’s important to follow medical advice. He added that his goal is to recover fully before getting back on the bike.
Marquez recently won his seventh MotoGP world title last week in Japan, securing the championship with five races left in the season. This was his first world title since 2019. Since the championship is already decided, his absence from the next two races will not affect the standings.
The Indonesian race turned chaotic after Marquez and Bezzecchi’s crash. Rookie rider Fermin Aldeguer went on to win his first MotoGP race after both crashed out early.
The 32-year-old Marquez has faced many injuries in his career. He broke his right arm in 2020, which almost forced him to retire from racing. His team said they want him to recover completely before making a comeback.
Fans are hopeful to see him back on track soon. For now, Marquez will continue treatment in Madrid, and his recovery progress will decide if he can return for the final two rounds of the season.
