Huawei will launch a new foldable phone in China next week. The phone is called the Huawei Mate XTs Extraordinary Master. It will be introduced on September 4, 2025, at 2:30 PM local time (1:00 AM IST).
This is Huawei’s second tri-fold phone. Last year in September 2024, the company launched the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, which was the first tri-fold phone made for the mass market.
The new phone will stand out because of its design. The teaser image shows a Z-shaped fold. This makes it a triple-folding phone, which means it can open up into a larger screen than regular foldable phones. The phone is also expected to come in two colors Crimson Purple and White.
Reports say the White model will feature heavily in the ads and promotions. To make the folding stronger and smoother, Huawei is bringing an updated Tiangong Hinge System, which is supposed to improve durability and reduce the crease line on the screen.
The phone is expected to use Huawei’s Kirin 9020 chip, the same processor that powers the Huawei Pura 80 series launched in July. This processor is built with a 1+3+4 CPU structure and works with the Maleoon 920 GPU, which is designed for smooth graphics. This setup is expected to offer strong performance and energy efficiency, especially while handling apps on a large folding screen.
Cameras will also be one of its highlights. Sources say the new phone will carry a 50-megapixel main sensor with a variable aperture for better control of light. It may also come with a periscope telephoto camera that supports zoom. Huawei is expected to use its special “Red Maple” image technology to boost picture quality, especially at night or in difficult lighting.
Apart from the fold and cameras, the Huawei Mate XTs Extraordinary Master may also bring satellite communication support. This feature helps make calls and send messages even in areas where there is no mobile network.
The phone is also rumored to support a stylus, making it useful for drawing, note-taking, and work activities. These features would make it not just a premium phone but also a productivity tool.
The timing of the launch is also important. The phone will arrive just a few days before Apple launches the iPhone 17 series on September 9, 2025. Huawei followed a similar plan last year when it revealed its tri-fold Mate XT Ultimate Design soon after Apple launched the iPhone 16. Clearly, Huawei wants to grab attention in the premium smartphone market just before Apple’s latest announcements.
The Mate XT Ultimate Design, launched in 2024, featured a 6.4-inch display, a triple rear camera setup with 50MP + 12MP + 12MP lenses, an 8MP front camera, 16GB RAM, 256GB storage, a 5600mAh battery, and ran on HarmonyOS 4.2. The new Mate XTs Extraordinary Master is expected to go beyond those specs with more power from the new processor, better hinge technology, and improved imaging features.
With this new launch, Huawei is trying to show that it is leading innovation in foldable phones again. The company is building on its tri-fold idea and adding more features for everyday use. By combining a unique and futuristic design with strong cameras and high-end performance, Huawei seems ready to compete closely with other top brands like Apple and Samsung.
More details about the phone, including its price and global availability, will only be revealed during the launch event on September 4. Until then, the Huawei Mate XTs Extraordinary Master remains one of the most exciting smartphone launches of the year and could set a new standard for foldable devices.
