Known for his aggressive T20-style batting, Brevis didn't hold back even in the longest format, smashing 51 runs off just 41 balls in the first innings of the match.

Walking in at a tricky 55/4, the 21-year-old played with remarkable confidence and flair, bringing up his fifty with a powerful six over midwicket off spinner Vincent Masekesa. His innings featured three sixes and three boundaries, instantly changing the momentum in South Africa’s favour.

Brevis' fearless knock made him the third-fastest player to score a fifty on Test debut, placing him just behind New Zealand’s Tim Southee (29 balls) and England’s Jacob Bethell (37 balls).

Partnering with fellow debutant and wicketkeeper-batter Lhuan-dré Pretorius, Brevis added 95 crucial runs for the fifth wicket. Pretorius stole the show with a composed century, reaching the landmark in 112 balls and becoming the youngest South African to score a hundred on Test debut.

While Brevis fell shortly after reaching his half-century, his impactful cameo had already energized the Proteas camp and placed the Zimbabwe bowlers on the back foot.

The Test match marks a new era for South African cricket, with young talents like Brevis and Pretorius stepping up with maturity and flair. Their performances not only rescued the team from early trouble but also showcased the future potential of South Africa’s red-ball lineup.
