For a limited period, anyone in the US can now download and use Sora without needing an invite code. This change opens the door for more people to try the app’s new and upgraded features right away.
One of the biggest new features is called Character Cameos. Previously, users could only include other users’ videos in their projects if they had permission. Now, anyone can make their own unique character from scratch.
To do this, users just need to upload a short video and some audio it could be of a pet, an object, or even a drawing. After that, they can name the character and describe its personality traits. These custom-made characters, known as Cameos, can then be added to new videos, helping users create fun and personalized content.

Sora also lets users control who can use their Cameos. They can choose to share them publicly, only with specific people, keep them private, or make them available just to friends. There’s even an option to set limits on what the character should not do or say, ensuring safety and appropriate use.
Another exciting addition is the video stitching tool, which allows users to combine multiple short clips into one longer video. The app automatically adds smooth transitions between the clips, so the finished video looks professional and seamless.

This feature is perfect for telling longer stories, showing how-to steps, or creating highlight videos and it’s simple enough for beginners to use.
To make the app more interactive and engaging, OpenAI has also added leaderboards. There are three types of leaderboards one showing users whose Cameos are used the most, another for the top remix creators, and one that highlights standout characters. These rankings help users see what’s trending and inspire them to experiment more and share their creations with others.
Along with these fun updates, OpenAI has introduced new guidelines for AI-powered video generation. There are also paid options for users who want to create more advanced videos. The company mentioned that it is continuing to strengthen content safety as new tools and features roll out.
Additionally, OpenAI is working on bringing Sora to Android soon and is developing systems to prevent deepfakes, helping users stay protected as the platform grows.
With all these improvements, Sora has become a much more powerful and enjoyable tool for both beginners and creative storytellers. It offers more freedom, better control, and stronger safety features making video creation simpler, smarter, and more fun for everyone.
